This little lady was a little bit outside of the ideal newborn photography range, but I'm always up for a challenge! I recommend pre-booking your newborn session while you're still pregnant to ensure you can get in within the ideal range of 3-14 days old because life gets busy! You keep pushing it to the back of your mind and before you know it, your little one is already 12 days old and you forgot to book the session! No worries though! With patience and preparation, beautiful photos will always be achieved!
There are many reasons that less than 14 days old is ideal for a newborn session. The longer your little one is outside of the womb, the less interested they are in getting all nice and curled up for those sweet, squishy photos. They also are more and more awake the older they get, so posing becomes more and more challenging. Around two weeks is when baby acne starts popping up. Fussiness tends to increase bit by bit from birth until six weeks (when it starts to cool off a bit in most cases), so the further from zero we get, the fussier they are likely to be! Also, you wouldn't believe how quickly their little looks change over the course of their first year! The newborn look quickly turns into the sweet smiler look--which is great, no doubt, but you certainly don't want to miss getting that perfect little newborn look recorded!
Well this little lady was an old lady by my newborn standards at three weeks old! We prepped and fed and heated that place up, but she was definitely in the mood to stay awake and check everything out. We captured some photos with big sis and big bro and did A LOT of rocking, bouncing, burping, and wrapping and finally we got this little sweetie to sleep!
The session was a little longer than usual, but totally worth it! It was fun having the challenge and we, of course, captured some real sweet beauty. Enjoy!
