This little sweetie was another one of my over two weekers. She was around three weeks old for our session. I know I like to harp on this a bit, but I want to be sure this is understood--although getting newborn sessions in within the first two weeks is ideal, being beyond two weeks is not the end of the world!
In the first two weeks babies are sleepier, sleep deeper, curl into the scrunchy little poses more easily, usually haven't gotten their "baby acne" yet, and are generally less cranky. When we get beyond two weeks, babies tend to be a little more stretched out so some poses might not be comfortable anymore and if baby shows signs of discomfort I will NOT do a pose. Right around the two week mark is when "baby acne" typically sets in. Not a huge deal as I can edit it out for the most part if desired, but a bit of a headache for me. ;-) Six weeks is generally thought to be the peak of fussiness for babies, so the closer we get to that, the fussier baby tends to be. The older baby is, the less they are able to get into that really nice deep sleep that allows me to transition from pose to pose and setup to setup without much delay.
So what does this mean for a session with a baby older than two weeks? Maybe nothing! I have many older "newborns" that work just as well as younger newborns. But typically, an older baby is going to mean a longer session, more wrapped shots, and possibly not as many of the scrunchy, curled up poses.
So how can you avoid missing the ideal window? Book in advance! Many of my mamas book as early as their second trimester. I set aside time in my schedule that guarantees at least one available date for a session within two weeks of birth (even if baby arrives a little ahead of schedule or behind schedule!).

Okay, off my soapbox... Back to this little angel! Is she not absolutely perfect? We kept it sweet and girly and goodness did she rock it!
